About this place
Step down the stairs into the basement to find Enji, a quiet retreat where sake from across Japan meets dishes thoughtfully designed to accompany every pour. The selection rotates daily; guests can consult the staff based on personal preferences or explore their palate through a tasting flight of 3 varieties. From coveted labels like Juyondai and Jikon to regional bottlings from smaller breweries, each glass is poured with close attention to serving temperature.
To accompany the drinks, the kitchen prepares satisfying fare including richly simmered domestic beef nikudofu (tofu stewed with beef), assorted sashimi, and fragrant grilled fish. Smaller plates such as nimiso cream cheese and seasonal vegetable tempura invite another round, while comforting finishers like chicken-dashi tsukesoba or shijimi clam chazuke round out the evening.
The dining room is completely non-smoking, centered around a counter that offers solo guests a welcoming, relaxed setting to settle into. Because seating is limited, booking ahead is advisable. It makes an appealing stop for dinner, as well as a peaceful spot for lingering over good sake later in the evening.
